On Friday 18th September, schools across Wickersley Partnership Trust came together to celebrate Rotherham Day, giving students the opportunity to learn more about their local area, celebrate its history and heritage, and show their pride in being part of the Rotherham community.
Across the Trust, students took part in a fantastic range of activities. Many schools dressed in red for the occasion and explored maps of Rotherham, discovered local landmarks and places of interest, and shared what they already knew about their town.
There was plenty of creativity too, with students designing posters, artwork and their own modern versions of Rotherham’s coat of arms. These activities encouraged them to think about what makes Rotherham special today, while also developing their understanding of the town’s history and heritage.
Our youngest pupils in EYFS also got involved, talking about where they live and the places they enjoy visiting before taking part in special red hunts around their school grounds. These activities provided a fun way to develop observation skills while helping pupils begin to understand their local community.
Rotherham Day was also a fantastic opportunity to bring schools together through sport and physical activity. Rotherham School Games held a special multi-skills sports event, bringing primary schools from across the Trust together to take part in a range of activities, including golf, badminton and fitness circuits. The event encouraged pupils to be active, try new sports and develop their teamwork and physical skills while celebrating their connection to Rotherham.
It was fantastic to see so many getting involved, learning more about the community around them and showing their local pride. Thank you to all our staff and students for helping make Rotherham Day such a special celebration across Wickersley Partnership Trust.
