Residentials and Duke of Edinburgh

Residentials

WPT is very proud to have been able to offer every Year 5 and 6 student a place at our annual residential – completely free of charge. We understand that residentials can be a large financial burden on families, so by removing the financial barrier we can enable all students to participate.

Across three days and two nights and based at our Cranworth Road facility, students participate in many exciting activities including:

  • Camping in our very own teepees
  • Ulley Reservoir trip including water safety talks, canoeing and raft building
  • A day trip in the local area (previous years have included Magna and the Yorkshire Sculpture Park)
  • Archery and multi-sports
  • Rock-climbing on our climbing wall
  • Movie night

The WPT residential is also a part of our Transition offer – students attend the residential with their own school and also other schools from the same catchment area, giving students the opportunity to meet their peers before starting at secondary school.

Our primary schools also organise their own residentials, with students in recent years visiting Scarborough, Whitby and many more locations.

Duke of Edinburgh

The Duke of Edinburgh Award has become a huge part of the Trust in recent years. Across the different levels of awards, we have many hundreds of students enroll each year.

We offer opportunities for students to take part in the Bronze award in Year 9 and 10, the Silver award in Year 11 and the Gold award in 6th Form.

The award sees students develop themselves through the different sections; Physical, Skill, Volunteering and Expedition:

  • Physical: Students are encouraged to develop themselves in a sport, physical activity, Dance or fitness activity.
  • Skill: Developing your practical and social skills in an area of interest.
  • Volunteering: Giving your time to help individuals or groups in the community.
  • Expedition: Expeditions take place each summer. Bronze Expeditions are for 2 days and 1 night and take place in the Peak District. Silver Expeditions are for 3 days and 2 nights and also take place in the Peak District. Gold Expeditions are for 4 days and 3 nights and usually take place in the Lake District.
