Our recent Trust Student Council Meeting – held on Monday 29th June – brought together representatives from across our schools, joined by Trust leaders, to share ideas, celebrate achievements and shape future priorities. Students explored a broad range of themes including sustainability, wellbeing, inclusion, community engagement and student leadership. Their contributions were insightful, forward‑thinking and closely aligned with our Trust’s values, demonstrating how confidently our young people step into leadership when given the opportunity to influence positive change.
Students spoke confidently about the growing emphasis on environmental responsibility within their schools, discussing ideas such as improving recycling facilities, encouraging energy‑saving habits and exploring Trust‑wide eco initiatives. They also highlighted the importance of wellbeing and inclusion, recognising the value of sensory spaces, movement breaks and trusted adults, while suggesting ways to deepen everyday support and understanding among peers.
Community involvement emerged as another strong theme. Student Leaders shared how activities such as care home visits, litter picks and food bank collections help strengthen relationships with local residents and build pride in their neighbourhoods. They also reflected on the importance of modelling positive behaviour – both in person and online – and discussed how responsible social media use can help create a kinder, safer digital environment for everyone.
As this was the final meeting of the year, they also took time to celebrate the impact they have made across their schools. They proudly recognised improvements to catering, successful charity fundraising, anti‑bullying initiatives and the introduction of new playground equipment – clear examples of student voice leading to real change across our Trust.
Senior Leaders praised the maturity, insight and respect shown by the Student Council throughout the discussions. Their ability to articulate their experiences, celebrate strengths and offer new ideas was fantastic, and will ensure that student voice continues to play a vital role across WPT.
A massive thank you to all students, staff and Trust Leaders who took part in this meeting. All of the insights and suggestions shared will help guide our next steps as we continue to build on the work we’re doing for student leadership, wellbeing, sustainability and community engagement.
