Recently, the English departments across all five secondary schools within the Trust came together to host a Trust-wide poetry competition for Year 7 and Year 8 students. The competition challenged pupils to write an original poem based on the theme of ‘Memory’, encouraging them to reflect on experiences and moments that have shaped their lives.
As part of the Wickersley Partnership Trust Enrichment Promise, the competition provided students with a valuable opportunity to showcase their creativity and develop their writing skills beyond the classroom. The standard of entries was exceptionally high, with students demonstrating remarkable imagination and poetic talent. After careful judging, a selection of winning poems from each year group was chosen to represent their schools.
As a reward for their success, the winners were invited to Grimm & Co in Rotherham on Friday 22nd May. During the visit, students took part in an inspiring poetry workshop, further developed their creative writing skills, and received certificates in recognition of their achievement. The day provided a fantastic opportunity for young writers from across the Trust to celebrate their success, share their passion for poetry, and take part in a fantastic experience.
We would like to congratulate all of the winners and thank every student who entered the competition. The quality of the work submitted was outstanding, and the judges were incredibly impressed by the effort and originality shown throughout. Well done to everyone involved!
