Ashwood Celebrates Positive Ofsted Inspection

Rawmarsh Ashwood Primary School is celebrating a fantastic Ofsted inspection that highlights the high standards, care and dedication found across the school. The inspectors observed a nurturing, inclusive environment where every child is given the opportunity to progress, highlighting the hard work, dedication and care shown every day by students, staff and families.

Inspectors praised Ashwood’s inclusive approach, noting how expertly staff adapt learning for students with SEND, those learning English as an additional language, and children facing extra challenges. Support for disadvantaged students was recognised as “worthy of note,” with these children making remarkable progress and outperforming their peers nationally by Year 6. Additionally, the Early Years setting was highlighted for helping its youngest learners make impressive progress in a safe, joyful, and engaging environment.

The personal development offer achieved a Strong Standard, reflecting a commitment to enriching every child’s broader life experiences. Inspectors were greatly impressed by the PSHE curriculum, The Ashwood Way and the Ashwood Pledges, which offer students opportunities to explore citizenship, life skills, physical and mental wellbeing, and local charity work such as supporting the local community foodbank. The children demonstrated a mature and secure understanding of fundamental British values, online safety, healthy relationships, and the importance of challenging stereotypes. Parents and carers echoed these findings, warmly praising the nurturing ethos and describing the school as a place where their children truly flourish under the care of a supportive leadership team that puts children at the heart of every decision.

Alongside these successes, inspectors recognised the strategic drive of school and Trust leaders in continuously refining the curriculum and teaching. Recent positive changes to phonics and reading programmes are already having a noticeable impact in classrooms, where calm, productive environments allow students to behave as excellent ambassadors for the school.

Building on the strong learning attitudes of the students, Ashwood is keen to work alongside families to keep school attendance as high as possible. While attendance is generally positive, every day counts towards students’ outcomes. The school’s joint efforts with families are already showing encouraging results, and the team are looking forward to working together to ensure every child benefits from a broad and balanced curriculum.

Miss Roper, Headteacher at Rawmarsh Ashwood Primary School, said: “Our children are at the heart of everything we do, and seeing their enthusiasm, kindness and hard work recognised by inspectors makes me incredibly proud. Thank you to our entire Ashwood family for making our school such a wonderful place for children to learn.”

This inspection marks another proud milestone for Ashwood, but our drive to deliver the very best for our students never stops. We are excited to continue this positive journey and build on these strong foundations for the future.
