Young Musician of the Year 2026

Last week saw two fantastic evenings of talent at the WPT Young Musician of the Year Final, held at Rawmarsh Community School.

Students from across Wickersley Partnership Trust secondary schools took to the stage to showcase their musical abilities in front of an enthusiastic audience and a judging panel of music professionals.

Vocalist Final

Wednesday evening’s final celebrated the vocalists, with singers from a variety of age groups and musical styles competing for the top prizes. From powerful solo performances to beautifully controlled ballads, the evening highlighted not only the incredible vocal talent across WPT, but also the confidence and passion of each performer.

The judges faced an incredibly difficult task, as every finalist delivered memorable performances that captivated the audience throughout the night.

Eva from Thrybergh Academy and Belle from Rawmarsh Community School both won their categories, while Robyn from Thrybergh Academy was crowned the overall winner of the evening.

Instrumentalist Final

The competition continued on Thursday with the instrumental final. The audience enjoyed a diverse range of performances featuring piano, guitar, violin, drums and brass instruments. Each musician demonstrated remarkable technical skill and musical expression, creating an evening filled with creativity and outstanding performances. The final was another impressive showcase of the depth of talent across our Trust.

James and Theo from Wickersley School and Sports College and Jacob from Clifton Community School took home the trophies in their categories, with Cameron from Wickersley Sixth Form named overall winner on the night.

Both evenings were a true celebration of music and a testament to the hard work and commitment of the students, supported throughout their journey to the final by dedicated staff and music teachers who guided and encouraged them every step of the way.

Music continues to play a vital role in WPT’s enrichment promise, providing students with opportunities to develop confidence, creativity and performance skills beyond the classroom. Events such as the Young Musician of the Year Final not only celebrate musical excellence, but also encourage students to express themselves, work collaboratively and build experiences that will stay with them long after their school years.

Congratulations to all finalists who took part and represented their schools so brilliantly. The WPT Young Musician of the Year Final once again proved to be a highlight of the school calendar, with audience members already looking forward to next year’s competition.

We’re excited to host the Primary Young Musician Final next month – stay tuned!
