As part of our Trust’s long-standing commitment to equipping students with essential life skills, we have introduced Life-Threatening Bleed Training for our Y11s – a practical session designed to teach them how to respond confidently in critical emergency situations.
This training forms part of our Trust’s innovative First Aid curriculum, delivered in partnership with First Aid Schools. The programme aims to provide continuous and sustainable First Aid and mental health awareness for students of all ages, from primary basics through to recognised qualifications at Key Stage 5.
Life saving skills such as CPR, automated external defibrillator (AED) use, treating unconscious casualties and responding to severe bleeding all feature within this broader curriculum, helping students be prepared for handling real-life scenarios.
This year’s introduction of Life Threatening Bleed Training builds on these foundations, giving students an opportunity to learn specialist techniques that could one day make a real difference. The sessions have been met with positive engagement from students and strong feedback from staff – reflecting just how seriously our young people are taking their First Aid education.
Sam Clark, Founder of First Aid Schools, said: “We couldn’t be more delighted with how the Y11s across Wickersley Partnership Trust responded to the training we provided. The students approached the sessions with care and attention, and the immediate feedback has been fantastic. It’s clear that many of them recognise the value of these skills and the difference they could make in a real-life situation.”
Kate Rushforth, Assets and Compliance Lead at Wickersley Partnership Trust, added: “Equipping our students with skills that go beyond the classroom is central to what we do as a Trust. Introducing Life Threatening Bleed Training for our Y11s is an important part of helping them develop confidence, responsibility and the ability to act in an emergency. These sessions reinforce the values of care and community that underpin our approach to learning, wellbeing and personal development.”
