Y10 Drama students across all our secondary schools recently went on a trip to Hull Truck Theatre to see John Godber’s latest hit comedy, Black Tie Ball.
The play, set in an aging Yorkshire hotel, follows the overworked staff as they navigate the chaos of hosting a glitzy private event – all brought to life through Godber’s signature witty and sharply observed style.
Our students thoroughly enjoyed the experience, gaining valuable insight into professional theatre and the techniques that make Godber’s work so distinctive. Seeing a live performance of his writing has provided some great inspiration and technical understanding, as the students prepare to devise their own Godber-inspired pieces later this year.
