Last month, Foljambe Primary School turned 70! The school first opened its doors back in 1954, and to celebrate its 70th anniversary, students were given an assembly on the history of Foljambe, with Mrs Lawery showing them some of the original documents from its grand opening.
Here are some photos from the archives!
Students were able to discuss how the school has changed since the ‘50s, and found out that it was originally an infant school for up to 240 Key Stage 1 students.
The day was celebrated further with a whole school photo, balloons, bunting and buns!
Mrs Heydon, Headteacher at Foljambe Primary School, said: “While I have only recently started my new role as Headteacher at Foljambe, it’s been an honour to lead the school as it turns 70 years old.
“Foljambe always has and always will be a key part of its local community, and it’s been fantastic to head back in time and go back to its roots, to see the similarities and differences of decades gone by.
“The students had a fantastic time celebrating the school’s birthday. We believe that local history and heritage studies can bring enormous benefits for children and young people – well done to all students and staff who took part in our special day.”
Foljambe Primary School first joined Wickersley Partnership Trust in 2021, when it was academised alongside Thrybergh Academy. Since then, the school has continued to grow, and has, in the last couple of years, had a brand new building built to house its assembly and dinner hall, and welcomed a new Headteacher, Mrs Heydon.
Congratulations to Foljambe Primary School on such a big milestone – here’s to the next 70 years!
