Rawmarsh Community School

I left RCS in 2017, leaving with multiple A*s and my lowest grade being a single B. I chose to study my A-Levels at Thomas Rotherham College; choosing Law, Business, Economics and an EPQ. Here, my interest in Law really developed and I was accepted to study Law at The University of York. Finally, I will graduate in November from my BPC LLM, which I am a student at ULaw Nottingham, and as a prospective barrister be called to the bar the same month.

I will start mentoring a Lincoln University Undergraduate this term and I currently work as a paralegal at Ringrose Law Solicitors since the applications for barristers pupillages don’t open till later this year.

Class of 2018

The Gainsborough Academy

After my time at The Gainsborough Academy and achieving my GCSEs, I attending John Leggott College to study Law, Business, Psychology and Criminology at A-Level. These led me to continuing my studies at University, and choosing the path of Bachelor of Laws (Honours) with Criminology. My first year of university was a difficult transition from college, due Coronavirus and lockdowns; it was a struggle to get into a positive mindset. However, this did not deter me from achieving my goals, and I finished after three years with a 2:1.

Following university, I decided to take a break from education, and took the plunge with a move to Australia with a working holiday visa. The experience has changed my life and has certainly been an eye-opener. I am currently settling into an insurance role in Brisbane, working as a Catastrophic Specialist.

Class of 2013 & 2015

Thrybergh Academy & Wickersley Sixth Form

I attended Thrybergh Academy and gained GCSEs, with results ranging from B-C, an NVQ in French and Distinction in Dance. I was unsure of the path I wanted to take, and chose to attend Wickersley Sixth Form, to open up my options. I chose to study IT, Applied Business, Sociology and Film Studies (AS Level) and achieved grades B-C.

After Sixth Form, I was still unsure of the career I wanted to pursue, but was interested in the Crime and Governance aspect of Sociology, and decided to study Criminology at Leeds Beckett University. There was one particular module that piqued my interest – Crime Prevention – from here I knew I wanted to work within the Police Force, but after an Open Day, I realised that I didn’t want to be a Police Officer or PCSO.

After university, I scoured government, council and police websites for job opportunities. When a crime prevention role appeared, I took my chance and it paid off! Though, after 9 months, I was seconded to the COVID Track and Trace team for 2 years. I returned to my crime prevention role, but realised I wanted something different. I applied for an Offender Manager role within the Sex Offender Management Unit and was offered the job. I have been in this role for over two years now and I am happy. I’m still unsure if this is my final career choice, but I am happy; I make a difference and help to protect the public.

Class of 2013

Clifton Community School & Wickersley Sixth Form

After completing my studies at Trent Valley Academy (now The Gainsborough Academy) in 2013, with grades ranging from A to D, I went on to attend Lincoln College. There, I completed a two-year Performing Arts course, passing in 2015 to a high standard.

Following college, I applied for an Apprentice Teaching Assistant position at The Gainsborough Academy and was fortunate to be successful in my application, allowing me to continue my journey with the school. In 2017, two years later, an opportunity arose to expand my role within the academy. I successfully applied for the position of Non-Teaching Assistant Head of Year on the Pastoral Team, driven by my passion for helping both students and staff achieve their full potential.

This same passion and dedication led me to pursue and secure the role of Non-Teaching Head of Key Stage 4 when the opportunity presented itself. Since then, I have thoroughly enjoyed contributing to the ongoing successes of The Gainsborough Academy and supporting its community in reaching ever-higher goals.

Class of 2015

Wickersley School and Sports College

After leaving CCS, I attended Wickersley Sixth Form. This led me to applying to, and being accepted at, Newcastle University. I studied an undergraduate degree in Education. I worked incredibly hard over my three years and gained First Class Honours.

I returned to Rotherham after completing my degree and undertook a PGCE with Sheffield Hallam University. This led me to working as a Supply Teacher, before being offered a permanent position with the school I was supplying at. During my time at the school, I have had the joy of teaching Year 1 children for the last three years, and cannot wait to see where my journey within the education field takes me.

Class of 2015 & 2017

Clifton Community School & Wickersley Sixth Form

I attended Wickersley School and Sports College, where I gained 13 GCSEs with results A-B. After this I chose to study my A-Levels at Wickersley Sixth Form; my chosen subjects were Psychology and History, where I gained a D and C, plus I studied AS Level Business Studies (and received an A grade) and completed an EPQ, which resulted in a B grade.

After Sixth Form, I chose to study Criminology at Sheffield Hallam University. I graduated and moved away from Rotherham to join the Police Force.

I spent my first three and a half years, in two different roles, across West Midlands and Derbyshire Police. However, I chose to leave the Police Force and pursue a career with Santander Bank. It was not a complete career change, as I utilise what I have learnt from my policing experience, as I work within the Fraud Investigation department. I use my relevant knowledge to investigate finance crimes, and help to protect customers from falling victim to scams and fraud.
