Student Leadership

School Councils

Our School Councils act as a representative for all students in school. Students in the school council make a valuable contribution to the effectiveness of the school, providing an opportunity for students to engage in a structured partnership with teachers and school SLTs regarding the operation of their school. School Councils enable our students to have a voice and to be heard, share opinions and ideas and provide constructive feedback on how to improve the school environment. All student councillors are democratically elected.

School Council meetings take place each half term. Their key purpose is to:

  • Represent the views of the student body
  • Support the educational development and progress of students
  • Assist with transition activities and new Year 7 students
  • Contribute to the development of school policy
  • Assist in sporting and cultural activities
  • Assist with the organisation and running of charity fundraising events

WPT  Student Council

Representatives from each school council will form larger Trust Student Councils. Our Senior Council is made up of representatives from our secondary schools, while our Junior Council is made up of representatives from our primary schools.

Trust Council meetings take place each half term. Their key purpose is to:

  • Discuss the Trust priorities
  • Set the agendas for School Council meetings
  • Collate student voice from across schools
  • Plan and manage a yearly programme of activities
  • Share results and outcomes with the wider school communities

The Junior and Senior Trust Councils will meet once a year at a leadership summit.

Eco Council

WPT is committed to playing our part in protecting the planet and educating our students on issues such as climate change, recycling and pollution, energy efficiency and reducing our carbon footprint.

As part of this, our schools have set up Eco Councils, who meet regularly to discuss how the school can further act in an environmentally responsible way. Many of our schools are actively working towards achieving the Eco-Schools Green Flag Award and the Green Tree Schools Award.

Anti-Bullying Ambassadors

Our Anti-Bullying student leaders work as a team to help to educate their peers on bullying, lead on anti-bullying campaigns, promote a culture which celebrates differences, and help to keep students safe both online and offline.

Many of our schools partake in the Diana Award Anti-Bullying Programme.

Sports Leaders and Playground Buddies

At primary, our Sports Leaders programme introduces and develops leadership skills in our students by training them to organise activities for other students to participate in, raising the confidence and self-esteem of themselves but also their peers who take part in the activities.

Playground Leaders help to make sure that everyone feels included and appreciated at play time by acting as a buddy to anyone who otherwise may feel left out.
