Over the last couple of months, students from across the Trust have been competing in the ‘WPT Young Musician of the Year 2021’ competition, which was set up this year to give our students a platform to perform.
This was the first WPT Young Musician of the Year competition and was all done virtually due to the current Covid restrictions.
38 students from across the Trust (FS2 to Year 11) entered and had to perform two pieces – which were adjudicated by three musicians with a wealth of performing experience – before the finalists performed a third piece.
We can now reveal the winners of each category…

Mollie Antcliff – JUNIOR VOCALIST OF THE YEAR
Lena Sadowska – KS2 INSTRUMENTALIST OF THE YEAR
Zak Myers – KS4 INSTRUMENTALIST OF THE YEAR
JJ Mafuta – KS3 INSTRUMENTALIST OF THE YEAR
Nikolas Badi – SENIOR OPEN MUSICIAN OF THE YEAR
Last night we hosted an awards ceremony for the winners at our Cranworth site, where some of them performed live in front of an audience and collected their certificates and trophies.
Sarah Bingham, WPT Music Lead said: “This was our first time doing this and ideally it wouldn’t have been virtual but we’ve changed and adapted to make it work.
“The competition was just a snippet of the huge amount of talent we have across the Trust from all ages but a big well done and congratulations to all of our winners.”
