Primary School Climbing Competition 2023

Primary School Climbing Competition 2023

Last week, students from the eight Wickersley Partnership Trust Primary Schools went head-to-head at the WPT Primary Schools Climbing Competition 2023.

The competition took place at Thrybergh Academy’s bouldering room, which has a large section of climbing wall with different angles and an additional speed climb wall.

Four students from each school were selected to form a team and represent their school at the competition, which took the form of a bouldering competition and speed climbing competition.

The participants had nine marked climbing challenges of different difficulty levels to attempt, which were set out and marshalled by the WPT Sports Coordinators.

The aim was to complete the trials in the least number of attempts – the fewer tries, the more points earned for their team.

There was also a roped speed climb challenge – whoever completed it in the fastest time won. Prizes and medals were allocated for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places as well as an overall trophy for the highest scoring team.

Competition Leaderboard and Winners:

The overall winning school, taking away the trophy with a total score of 286 points, was Thrybergh Primary School.

David Bloor, WPT Outdoor Education Coordinator, said: “It is felt that this style of climbing competition is best as it increases competitor participation. The competition is designed to allow us for as much competitor participation as possible. It is very much supposed to be about fun and raising the profile of climbing as a sport for students with little or no climbing experience or specialist gear.”

Equality Month Competition!

Equality Month Competition!

This academic year at Wickersley Partnership Trust, we have been exploring the theme of ‘Equality’. All of the schools in the Trust are focusing on equality in June and students will be learning about a number of different issues and themes in lessons and assemblies.

We would like our students to take part in a cross-Trust competition by creating something on the theme of ‘Together, Unique’. The criteria is quite broad so be creative – it could be a piece of art, drama, baking, photography, poetry or a story!

What springs to mind when you hear ‘Together, Unique’?

Students can do this individually, as a group or as a class.

All entries need to be submitted to competitions@wickersleypt.org by the 25th June 2021. Please include your name, year group and school.

Good luck!

Christmas Card Competition Winners

Christmas Card Competition Winners

This December we held our second annual ‘design a Christmas card’ competition.  The competition was open to students aged 3-16 across all Wickersley Partnership Trust schools. The winning entries were turned into our Christmas card for 2020. Winning students won a supply of their own Christmas card, as well as an Amazon gift voucher and a chocolate treat!

Our annual Christmas card will be sent to all colleagues, stakeholders and friends of the Trust this week.

After careful deliberation from our expert panel of judges, 6 winning designs were picked – one each from Foundation Stage, Key Stage One, Key Stage Two and Key Stage Four. Extensive discussion ensued to choose a Key Stage Three winner – there were over a hundred entrants for this catagory alone, and after much debate and good-natured disagreement, two designs were chosen to represent Key Stage Three.

A huge congratulations to all winners, your designs were excellent! A massive thank you to every student who entered and for staff who supported our competition this year.

Same time next year? 🎄🎅🏻
