Remembrance Day 2023

The schools across Wickersley Partnership Trust took part in a range of activities to mark Remembrance Day 2023.

In our Primary Schools, children discussed the importance of Armistice Day, the significance of the poppy and creating crafts to help mark the occassion. These crafts were then used in displays around the schools and our local communities.

In our Secondary Schools, more poppy displays were created, including creating beautiful clay poppies. There were also two-minute silences as a mark of respect, with staff from music departments playing the Last Post.

Two students from Gainsborough represented the school in Gainsborough’s local Remembrance Day event, by laying a wreath. They represented the school brilliantly.

A student from Thrybergh Academy also created the beautiful poem below:

In the field, where poppies grow,
A tale of horror, long ago.
World War One, a time of strife.
Many gave their precious life.

Brave soldiers march, heads held high,
Underneath the dull sky.
In the trenches deep, they stood their ground,
Echoes of gunfire, the only sound.

Yet except the chaos, hope was born,
On a silent peaceful, Christmas morn.
When guns were silenced, hearts were
light, a fleeting moment of respite.

A tribute to those, both far and near,
who faced the war with courage, no fear.
Their sacrifice, we won’t forget,
In our hearts, lest us forget.

Well done to all staff and students across all of our schools who have commemorated Remembrance Day remarkably and respectfully.
