TEKK-ing On - The Challenge The Final!

Primary students across the Trust have all taken part in the TEKK challenge as part of their in-classroom learning. This was in collaboration with BETogether TEKK Challenge and HSBC.

The TEKK Challenge is an exciting programme designed to give students who are currently in Years 5 and 6, a hands-on, practical experience of forming a company to meet a technological challenge, and to help them identify and develop Enterprise and STEM skills and attitudes that will be invaluable to them both now and in their future working lives.

It is designed to bring business and education together in a partnership to invest in the future of the next generation. Ambassadors from local businesses work side by side with students and teachers in the schools raising awareness of opportunities, sharing knowledge and building partnerships.

This year’s challenge was to build playground equipment using a set list of resources and clear expectations.

The students had to complete experiments and market research in order to promote their team, company and product.

Each competing class had to present and send their winning team through to the finals held on Wednesday 22nd March at the HSBC Head Office in Sheffield at Grosvenor House.

Using the skills acquired over the project they presented to an audience of 100 and 3 independent judges who worked their way around the event.

Seeing the student’s final designs on display and confidence grow presenting their work to the judges was a fantastic result in itself, however it did come down to a tough final decision for the judges who could only choose one group to win each category.

The final awards presented were:

Company Image: Aston Hall

Planning: Aston Lodge

Construction: Thrybergh Primary

Teamwork: Rawmarsh Ashwood

South Yorkshire Team of the Year: Monkwood Primary

Once the trophies were handed out, all students received class certificate, medal and HSBC goody bag for participating in the final event.
