Clifton Community School Hosts Battle of the Bands

Clifton Community School Hosts Battle of the Bands

On Thursday 5th May, Clifton Community School played host to this year’s Battle of the Bands.

The evening saw seven bands and five soloists from across Clifton Community School, Wickersley School & Sports College and Oakwood High School compete in front of a packed audience and a judging panel made of Mrs Leng (CCS Headteacher), Mrs O’Brien (WPT CEO) and David Burgess (Head of Music at Rotherham College).

The competition was tough from the start but it was a joy to see students from all schools supporting each other.

The special guest band was For Next Week from Rotherham College, who absolutely blew us all away.

Clifton’s very own talented bassist, Alex Koroma, performed in the winning band, The Meteorites with some incredible musicians from Oakwood.

Congratulations to all musicians involved – it was wonderful to be able to present another opportunity for students to develop their skills and confidence as musicians.

A huge well done to the overall winning band, The Meteorites, and the winning soloist, Jaime, from Oakwood – outstanding performances all round.

Cheerleading Success for WPT Sports Coach

Cheerleading Success for WPT Sports Coach

Our WPT Sports Coach, Rebecca Lamb, competed for Trailblazer Allstars at the Cheerleading World Championships in Florida in April.

After missing out on competing the last two years due to Covid, the team were finally given the green light for 2022.

The Championships were contested by 26 teams from all over the world, including a number of professional American teams.

The competition took place over two days, with Trailblazer Allstars finding themselves in 11th place after day one.

The girls took to the floor on day two with the drive and determination to break into the top 10 and after leaving everything on the mat, they finished the Championships 9th in the world!
An outstanding achievement for anyone, let alone a family run club from Rotherham.

Another one of our WPT Sports Coaches, Freya Smith, was due to compete in the Championships but unfortunately suffered an injury in training on the run up to the finals. Although she wasn’t able to compete, Freya was and continues to be a vital part of the Trailblazer Team.

Ex WPT staff member, Gina Williams, founded Trailblazer Allstars in 2011 and has built the club up from a handful of cheerleaders to a programme that now houses Tiny, Mini, Youth, Junior and Senior teams.
