Rotherham School Games - U8s Into Hockey Festival

Rotherham School Games - U8s Into Hockey Festival

On Friday 10th December, Rotherham Hockey Club hosted the School Games U8 Into Hockey Festival. This event was designed as an introduction to the sport, with the children participating learning the basic fundamentals and how to be safe with a hockey stick.

The event was run by the Y9 and Y10 Sports Leaders from Wickersley School & Sports College and Rawmarsh Community School who – over their last few sports leader sessions – have been learning how to deliver fun, safe and inclusive hockey sessions.

Over 80 children from six schools took part in the event, which was really well received by school staff who were extremely complimentary of the Sports Leaders running the different stations.

Mr Walker, School Games Organiser for Rotherham, said: “This was the first event our Sports Leaders have run independently and it was great to see them delivering to the Y3 children. All participants had a smile on their face throughout and we certainly have some PE teachers in the making on our leadership programme – well done to all involved”.

This event concludes our hockey programme after successful U11 Boys and U11 Girls pathway competitions.
