Apprentice in Horse Care – Equine Groom Level 2

Who would I work for?
Various locations including: equestrian centres, stables, livery yards and farms.

What does the role involve?
Day to day horse care including the general care and condition of the horses, preparing them for competition or riding.

Duties will include all aspects of Horse Care, e.g:

  • Grooming
  • Mucking out
  • Trimming
  • Plaiting
  • Health care
  • Travelling
  • Feeding
  • Grooming at competitions / riding


How much will I be paid?
Minimum wage £129 per week

How long is the apprenticeship?
As an apprentice it will take about 13 months to complete the Level 2 as an equine groom. Progression to a Level 3 Senior Equine Groom would take approximately 18 months to complete.  A Level 3 Farrier apprenticeship takes a minimum of three years to complete.

What school grades do I need to access an apprenticeship like this?
Minimum 4 in GCSE English Language and Maths.

There are a choice of local training providers – and just this week there are 8 paid apprenticeship vacancies for this role within a 10 mile radius of Rotherham.
