Game Academy Bootcamp: How to Get Your Dream Job by Playing Games

If you’re a gamer, did you know that video gaming skills are in great demand by employers?

There is a Game Academy bootcamp – in collaboration with Speakers for Schools – this summer, which is open for students (14+) attending school in Rotherham and neighbouring towns.

Here, you’ll play games by yourself and with others, experience quests and challenges, and hear from gamers who have achieved big things from their work in gaming.

It is a fantastic opportunity to gain experience of jobs in the gaming industry but is also a chance to learn how skills developed through gaming can be applied in other careers – local and national employers will be involved as well as the gaming museum in Sheffield. 

The gaming virtual work experience is open to Years 10 and 11, and will run from 16th – 20th August 2021.

Wickersley Student, Leah Fearon's Debut Play 'My BFF is a Vampire'!

Wickersley School’s Year 7 Performing Arts student, Leah Fearon, has completed the first draft of her debut play ‘My BFF is a Vampire’. 

Whilst the Drama Department found itself in the unusual, restrictive habitat of the classroom, the students got the chance to explore areas of the subject not done so in-depth, including scriptwriting.

Leah showed exceptional skill and imagination in one of the first lessons, and shared how she had written lots of scripts at home.

Impressed by this, Mr Wilding encouraged Leah to continue writing ‘My BFF is a Vampire’.

The script has now been professionally formatted and tells the story of best friends, Stacey and Kayla, who find moving to ‘big school’ is the least of their worries!

Well done on this wonderful achievement, Leah!

WPT extends fleet of school buses

WPT extends fleet of school buses

Today, we extended our fleet of school vehicles with an additional two buses. 

This enables us to give our students more opportunities to go out into the community on school trips and educational visits.

Matt Sutton, Operations Manager at Wickersley Partnership Trust said: “I’m so pleased that we now have two new buses to benefit all students across the Trust as we can offer more transport to places like Ulley Activity Centre and other provisions.”
