Year 8s are well under way with their options process, which will see them picking their two faculty choices for next year. Over the last fortnight, the students have been using their PSHE lessons to explore a range of careers and possible routes, which also challenged their thinking to make informed choices for their futures.
There has been excellent attendance in the workshops over the past couple of weeks, with many year 8s responding positively to the presentations, interactive tasks and discussions – delving into an array of career paths and the current Local Labour Market.
What became clear to the students from the lessons was how much choice there is when it comes to post 16 education and apprenticeships. Some students were surprised at the range of courses offered by local colleges – realising that there really is something for everyone!
Another positive takeaway for the students was learning about different learning styles, which styles are most suited to them, and how important it is to choose the faculties and subjects that complement these styles well.
Next step:
We will be hosting a virtual options evening after half term on Tuesday 23rd February for parents and students. There will be a presentation delivered by Mr Burnham and then there will be a chance to break out into separate talks with faculty leaders to get more information about particular subjects.
